What is KTP Green Laser prostate vaporization?

KTP Green Laser prostate vaporization is a minimally invasive technique that serves as an alternative to the traditional method for treating Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia, known as transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP).

It is performed through the natural opening of the urethra, avoiding incisions, and involves vaporizing the prostate tissue that compresses the urinary tract, thereby increasing the diameter of the prostatic urethra.

This allows the patient to regain normal urination ability immediately after surgery. Additionally, complications are very low, enabling patients to be discharged on the same day as the surgery.

When is it indicated?

The laser is indicated for men with moderate or severe Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH), including symptoms such as interrupted urination, a feeling of incomplete bladder emptying, reduced urine flow, frequent nighttime urination, or acute urinary retention.

It is specifically designed for patients with small to medium-sized prostates (up to 80 grams), who wish to avoid major surgeries and seek long-lasting results.

What does Prostate Vaporization consist of?

It consists of vaporizing the prostate tissue that obstructs urine flow using laser energy. At the same time the tissue is vaporized, the laser energy coagulates the wound, minimizing bleeding during and after the surgery.

Is the procedure painful?

By performing the surgery without incisions, through the urethra, the pain is minimal. Additionally, a urinary catheter is left in place for 24-48 hours to prevent pain or complications.

How long does it take?

The procedure lasts from 45 to 90 minutes, depending on the size of the prostate.

What is the recovery like?

The procedure is performed without hospitalization, but rest at home for 2-3 days is recommended. Normal activity is resumed after 7 days, but heavy exertion should be avoided for 2-3 weeks.
