Surgery for Peyronie's disease

According to the European and American guidelines of Urology, the standard and definitive treatment for patients who have a curvature in stable phase and have functional impact is surgery.

What surgeries are there and what is the goal?

The objective of surgery for Peyronie’s disease is to obtain a straight, rigid and stable penis so that the patient can have sexual intercourse with penetration.

There are 3 types of surgery for Peyronie’s disease; the corproplasty type plication , the corporoplasty with graft and the penile prostheses.

The choice of the surgical technique is decided based on:

  • The degree of curvature
  • Complex deformities (hourglass, hinge effect)
  • The erectile function
  • The length of the penis

What is the best surgical technique for me?

The Penile corporoplasty is a surgical procedure used in the treatment of Peyronie’s disease and consists of correcting the curvature of the penis by modifying the structures of the corpus cavernosum of the penis.
Corporoplastia tipo Plicaturas
Corporoplastia tipo Plicaturas
Corporoplastia tipo Plicaturas

Corporoplasty type Plications

When is it indicated?

In slight curvatures (< 60º), without complex deformities (hourglass, indentations and hinge effect), good length of the penis and good erections.

What does it consist of?

These consist of applying sutures on the penis on the opposite side of the curvature to reduce the length of the corpus cavernosum and correct the curvature.

At Andrology Mallorca we perform different corporoplasty techniques (Nesbit, Yachia, rotations or 16 DOTS) adjusting the technique to each patient to achieve the best results.

How long does the intervention last?

From 45 to 60 minutes.

What is the recovery time you have?

From 4 to 6 weeks to resume sexual intercourse.

What are the disadvantages of it?

They are simple techniques but present greater shortening of the penis.

Graft-type corporoplasty

When is it indicated?

In severe curvatures (>60º), with complex deformities (hourglass, indentations and hinge effect), and very good erections.

What does it consist of?

This technique consists of the resection of the fibrous plaque that is usually at the point of maximum curvature and replacing it with an autologous or synthetic graft.

¿Cuánto tiempo dura la intervención?

From 90 to 120 minutes.

What is the recovery time you have?

From 8 to 12 weeks to resume sexual relations.

What are the disadvantages of it?

They are complex techniques but present less shortening of the penis.

It is important that the type of penile corporoplasty is carefully selected by an expert urologist based on the individual evaluation of the patient, including the severity of the curvature, the presence of additional deformities and erectile function. In patients presenting with Peyronie’s disease associated with erectile dysfunction the placement of a penile prosthesis in the same surgical act as the correction of the curvature.
