Erectile dysfunction: Shock wave lithotripsy

Extracorporeal lithotripsy with low-intensity shock wave therapy (Li-ESWT) has recently been proposed as a novel modality for treating ED.
The use of Li-ESWT generates an intra and extracellular response in the corpora cavernosa of the penis, generating vascular growth factors and angiogenesis, that increases the blood flow in the penis. In the first randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study, its efficacy in treating ED of vasculogenic origin was demonstrated. Recent results also show improvements in hemodynamic parameters, endothelial function and improvements in erectile function in patients not responding to PDE5.
