The Red Cross Hospital of the Balearic Islands hosted the highly successful 1st Spanish-Swedish Urology Course, an international event bringing together urologists and medical specialists from Spain and Sweden to exchange knowledge and experience in cutting-edge surgical techniques.
Held in a real clinical setting, the course combined theoretical lectures with live practical sessions, focusing on two of the most prevalent areas in modern urology: benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and prostate cancer.
During the course, the Urology team led by Dr. Xavier Bonet of Andrologia Mallorca showcased their surgical and clinical work through live demonstrations. Dr. Víctor Parejo performed several holmium laser enucleation procedures (HoLEP), a minimally invasive technique particularly effective and safe for large prostate glands.
In addition, Dr. Bonet carried out MRI-ultrasound fusion-guided prostate biopsies, an advanced diagnostic approach that combines magnetic resonance imaging with transrectal ultrasound for enhanced precision in detecting prostate cancer.
The event was highly praised by all participants and reaffirmed the Red Cross Hospital’s dedication to continuous medical education, technological innovation, and excellence in urological care.
This successful course lays the foundation for future editions and strengthens Palma’s position as a leading center for high-level urology training in Europe.
