In a significant effort to improve healthcare on Mahé Island, Seychelles, Dr. Víctor Parejo, a urologist from the Andrología Mallorca team, has led a medical cooperation project that has marked several important milestones in the history of the local hospital. As part of this collaboration, a laparoscopic urological surgery and a circumcision using an automatic stapler have been performed for the first time.
Dr. Parejo, in collaboration with the Seychelles Ministry of Health and the local urology service led by Dr. Toiran, has developed a series of workshops and training sessions aimed at doctors and nurses on the island, with the goal of strengthening their skills in diagnosing and treating urological conditions.
The completion of the first renal laparoscopic surgery and the first circumcision using an automatic stapler represent significant advances for the Mahé hospital, which can now offer less invasive procedures with faster recovery for patients. These achievements have been made possible thanks to the dedication and expertise of Dr. Parejo, who has worked closely with the local medical team to ensure the success of these pioneering interventions
One of the main achievements of this collaboration has been the reduction of hospital stay for urological procedures, which has significantly improved the quality of life for these patients. Dr. Parejo emphasized the importance of such initiatives: “Our goal is not only to provide up-to-date medical care but primarily to train local professionals so they can continue to deliver high-quality service.”
